Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana purchase occurred in 1803 and was a land purchase between America and France. Since Thomas Jefferson was the president he concluded the deal with France and purchased the land. The Louisiana purchase nearly doubled the size of the United States and allowed more opportunities for exploration and expansion. Lewis and Clark Expedition The Lewis and Clark Expedition was launched in 1803 by Thomas Jefferson. The Lewis and Clark Expedition was launched to explore the new area purchased in the Louisiana Purchase and the area beyond Louisiana. They were also searching for a water route to the Pacific Ocean. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were chosen to lead the expedition, which gave the expedition its name. The expedition was successful. The Lewis and Clark Expedition ended in September of 1806. Embargo Act The Embargo Act was sponsored by Thomas Jefferson and passed in 1807. This act made all exports from the United States illegal. The United States wanted France and Britain to respect the American rights. |
